Not only has the evolution of materials such as plates, locked plates, locked nails, external fixators, anchors, hip prosthetic elements, etc., allowed us to better treat our four-legged friends, but also the evolution in diagnostic investigation possibilities, moving for example from arthroscopy to CT scans, from ultrasound to MRI, has made it possible to non-invasively detect soft tissue lesions such as nerves, ligaments, and menisci, in order to anticipate any problems. Assessments on the surgery are made by surgeons with a preliminary visit in which the owner is informed about the reasons suggesting surgery, surgical techniques, post-operative therapies, and prognosis.
Pre-operative investigations (haematological, radiological, ultrasound, endoscopic examinations, etc.) are carried out, as well as a pre-operative visit by the veterinarian who will administer the anaesthesia during the surgery, aimed at evaluating the clinical conditions of the subject and establishing the most suitable anaesthesiological protocol.
